New York City Blackout 1977 (Portfolio)

While the biggest heat wave strikes New York City, on the evening of 13th of july 1977, the city gets nuts. In a few minutes, because of the most crushing black-out of its history, every neighbourhood in the city find themselves in the dark. Named “The 25 hours of terror” by medias and historians, this huge power cut is about to provok a wave of violence, thefts, vandalizings, but also arsons and rebellions of the working class like never seen before, acting back then like symbols of protest and exasperation. Below, a few images illustrating this total and unpredictible chaos as well as a video excerpt from movie “NY 1977 The Coolest Year in Hell” (see our complete review about the movie here).
